Keats and Shelley both highlight the theme of making a significant and lasting impact on the world. The creator of the Urn has influenced generations of people, and Keats has done so with his poetry. Just like Ozymandias, the Urn will and has influenced people for years. He mentions that “When old age shall this generation waste, / Thou shalt remain” (46-47), illustrating the power art has in its longevity. As a popular author, Keats has cemented to subject of his poem in time. John Keats “Ode on a Grecian Urn” has many of the same themes as Shelley’s work. Ozymandias proved the point that Shelley believed wholeheartedly, that poetry has the ability to make a significant impact on the world. This illustrates the power Shelley had as a poet, since his work eventually became so popular. Shelley’s poem has cemented the statue of Ozymandias in time even though all that is left of it are the ruler’s feet. We also discussed how Shelley was very interested in the power of art and the power of poetry. However, the sculptor still had the power to convey subtle messages someone mentioned how the sculptor could give the ruler a scowl to show his cruelty even though the ruler might think it makes him look tough. The sculptor of Ozymandias had the power to sculpt the ruler in any way he saw fit, assuming that it pleased Ozymandias himself.
